The Center for Biomedical & Healthcare Engineering at the École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Saint-Etienne invites applications for a faculty position at the assistant professor (Maître Assistant) level in the area of computer science and healthcare data analytics to start in October 2018. Candidates must have European Union citizen status.
The École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Saint-Etienne (EMSE), École de l’Institut Mines Télécom, under the supervision of the Ministry of the Economy, Industry and Digital Technology, is assigned missions of education, research and innovation, transfer to industry and scientific, technical and industrial culture.
The EMSE consists of 1,800 engineering and research students, 420 staff members, a consolidated budget of €50M, three sites on the Saint-Etienne campus (Loire Department), a campus in Gardanne (Bouches-du-Rhône Department), five educational training and research centres, seven research laboratories, a scientific, technical and industrial cultural centre (La Rotonde) and development projects in France and abroad.
The Center for Biomedical & Healthcare Engineering (CIS), one of the 5 training and research centers of the school, brings together professors in industrial engineering / computer science, biomechanics, and process engineering around health applications: biotechnologies, tissue engineering, e-health, computer assisted surgery, medicine and personalized patient clinical pathway...
The I4S department of the CIS is a research team dedicated to health-care systems and services. I4S is also part of the Laboratory of Computer Science, Modeling and Optimization of Systems (LIMOS, UMR CNRS 6158). I4S has been working over 10 years on improvement of healthcare delivery systems and health services. I4S has strong partnerships with hospitals (CLB, ARS-Ile de France, HCL, CHUSE, ...), industrial companies (HEVA, LOMACO, EOVI, CETAF, ...) and has an international mirror team in Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
I4S starts a new research line focused on healthcare data analytics to face increasing industrial demands. Topics covered include: (i) analysis and extraction of data / process mining, (ii) machine learning, (iii) medical decision making. I4S aims to combine operations research, data science and machining learning to answer important research questions in healthcare and medicine such as patient pathway prediction, impact of new technologies on a clinical pathway, improving medical decision making with big data.
The candidate must be committed to teaching courses in healthcare data analytics at both undergraduate and graduate levels including "Ingénieur Civil des Mines", Master of Biomedical Engineering, Master of Industrial Engineering and relevant professional and vocational training. The main teaching assignments include health data modeling, machine learning, medical decision support, bio-statistics and the candidate should have an understanding of the importance of both supervised and practical courses, along with the tutoring of projects and internships/work experiences. The design of new activities and the development of innovative teaching methods, in particular related to digital technology such as MOOCs, will be an integral component of the teaching mission.
The successful candidate will integrate the new research theme "Healthcare Data Analytics" dedicated to medical data analysis including data mining/analysis, process mining, machine learning, and medical decision making.
These assignments will be carried out on the Saint-Etienne (42) EMSE campus.
The candidate should hold a doctorate in computer science, industrial engineering or data science. Significant experience of teaching in the aforementioned fields (teaching instructor, contracted teacher and/or ATER status (temporary teaching and research assistant status)) at under-graduate or post-graduate cycle levels will be appreciated.
The main candidate assessment criteria are as follows (non-exhaustive list):
- Significant teaching experience (development of digital courses, reference works…) in the previously mentioned fields, at under-graduate or post-graduate level, will be appreciated, along with development of new teaching methods.
- Capacity to develop a strong externally-funded research program in healthcare data analytics.
- Capacity to successfully integrate the team project, the centre and the research laboratory
